This week I spent many hours in the art room working on multiple pieces. I many grinnded on my piece of my sister but also worked on a skateboard deck and finishing another portrait of my sister in pastels.  I was also able to attend Wednesday night open studio where I helped Sam, Malcolm, Nathan, and Billy on the skateboard decks while also spending some time painting. Luckily Corby was also nice enough to let me in on Sunday where I worked for a couple hours on the oil painting of my sister. Billy also gave me a critic and was very helpful as I have been struggling with this piece.

This sweltering Friday I took my paints outside to work on this piece. I got a lot done but am still not where I want to be. I loved working outside and got some pointers from Meg who joined me outside!  hours 9:45-:11:45 break 12:30-2:00

Today I continued to work on this piece. This work has been challenging and has proven to give me a lot of difficulties. I think after a successful piece I always seem to go into a lul in artistic inspiration. I am working hard to finish but my decrease in inspiration has been difficult.  Hours 9:30-12:30 break 1:30-2:15

Today I worked on this piece in the morning and during open studio. I was able to finish the first face pretty much today. This piece is proving to be more challenging than I anticipated the angle of the face makes it more difficult. I had some help and adjustments today with Corby during open studio and feel a little more confident moving forward.   hours 9:30-12:30 break Lacrosse  7-9:30

Today I started a new piece! This one is continuing the glitching seeing multiples sorts of aesthetics. This piece makes you see triple! I first sketched it out on the canvas then began to add color with oil paint. I have so far completed half of one of the faces. Tombow I am hoping to get the rest of that face complete.  hours 9:30-12:30 break 1-2

Today I completed the final touches on my oil painting! It is all done yay, I hung it up on the wall cause my mom always says "you need to live with a piece before you truly know if it's done. Then I finished glazing the rest of my ceramic pieces. I also photographed the ones that had been fired to go in the are art show! Today I had somewhat of an artistic block so I took some time to sketch and nail down the ideas for my next painting! I hate when I feel un artistic normally it comes to me after completing a piece that I like, it's almost like my brain gets scared to do another cause what if it's worse. I think I need to work on trusting my instincts and athletic sensibilities.  Hours 9:45-12:45 Brake  1:30-2:30

Reflection

It has been now a full week of senior project! I have had the best time spending my days this week in the art room. It is truly my favorite spot on campus. Waking up at 9:00 am to head over and paint is truly a blessing. It has certainly been relaxing to not have classes but I am always tired out of my creative brain churning all day. This week I began and more or less finished my self-portrait. I started with a sketch and turned it into an oil painting. I really loved the consistent about of time I could work on it each day. Although the painting did take longer than expected in actuallity was the fastest painting I have ever completed due to the number of hours I put in each day.  Next week I plan on starting a new oil painting! I definitely will fish another this week and start the next one hopefully. I have some sketches of possible ideas. I am very excited to continue this week painting and doing what I love.

Today was somewhat uneventful, I mainly just brainstormed. I had a limited amount of time to work due to are early game and team meeting. I was able to get some sketch’s in my note book just to get the creative thought process going. Another thing that I like to do when starting a new body of work is looking at some of my favorite artists thoughts behind there prices. Today I dove into both Huronomus Boch’s panel peice  of heaven earth and hell and Georgia O’Keef’s iris series.  Hours 9:00-11:00

Today I eventually finished my first painting. I will be going back after it dries to add final details to the hair and face to really push the detail. The hair isn't perfect but that's why I need to go back later to touch up some thing. At the moment it's too wet to add the details that will make it a final product.  Also, I added a progress pic of my self-portrait from a year ago compared to this one. I really think that Euro really helped me see color better. Dave and Jean really thought me how to look with my eyes and not my brain! Hour 9:30-12:30 break 1:00-2:30

Today I just continued working on my self-portrait. I was able to get a lot done! I have almost completed the full face! yesterday I completed the eyes...today I moved on to the nose and mouth. I was dreading doing the nose cause its a bit trickier to make it look three-d and capture the structure correctly but I think it came out well! The mouths were also really fun to work on. I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting lips! I am actually very proud of it so far (progress pics down below).  Hours  9:30-12:30 Break 1:00-2:00 Break 7:00- 8:00

Today I spent all my time in Slocum where I worked on my first painting. I have loved being in the art room so much it is certainly one of my favorite places on campus! It is taking me longer than I expected but am really excited about it. I had many people stop by and talked to Jill about my next steps. I am proud of how this piece is turning out! I finished the eyes and am now moving to nose mouth and hair. My plan is to  hopefully complete it tomorrow or the next day!  Hours  8:00-12:00 break for lunch 1:00-2:00

Today I started my first peace! I began by talking with Birgit about possible ideas. I then brain stormed on paper to come up with a final idea. Finley I sketched out what I was going to do on canvas. I drew what is supposed to be a self-portrait in a somewhat glitchy aesthetic. I have done many portraits in the past but this one I want to take somewhat of a different approach.  Then a set up my palet with all my different colors I would need, picked out my paint brushes and got to work! Here is what I have done so far! Can't wait to keep going tomorrow! Hours 9:30-12:30 break for lunch  1:00-2:30

I began my project cutting wood with Corbet in order to create the framework for my canvas. It's a lot of measuring at first but it was super cool to learn how to properly and safely use the power saw.  After measuring and cutting you have to carefully glue the wood together to create frames. I created 4 different sized frames that I then will cover with canvas.  Once the glue dries I cleaned up the corners by sanding them down to create a perfect edge with no leftover glue or wonky sides.  Then I cut the canvas to fit each frame. I could have measured but I ended up just eyeballing it. It was very similar to cutting wrapping paper to wrap a present.  Then the Part that I spent most of my day doing is slowly stapling and harming the canvas to the wood. The was a lot of stapling to do and it definitely made my hand sore by the end. In order to make sure the canvas is taught you also have to continue pulling it in working from the inside out to the corners.  Here is the final product
